Grant has 20 years of finance and management experience, the last 12 of which have been directly in the technology and payments industries in Africa. His experience ranges from group reporting in large London-based financial services multinationals to partner in a tech start-up to COO of a leading US listed international payment company’s Southern African business. He joined Crossfin in October 2018 as the group CFO.
Grant qualified as a Chartered Accountant in Cape Town in 1999 in South Africa and immediately travelled
to the UK, basing himself in London for 6 years and working in management finance roles initially at Deutsche Bank’s head office in Liverpool Street and then ultimately at global financial services business Reuters’ head office located at that time in Fleet Street. He returned to South Africa in 2005 where he joined at Primedia Limited as group finance manager before their delisting in 2007, responsible for a group finance team, as well as driving the underlying businesses’ achievement of budgets. In 2008 he joined Computer Software Consultants (“CSC”) as CFO. CSC was a previously family-owned business with the distribution rights for Verifone payment terminals in Southern Africa, and had recently joined the JSE-listed UCS Group Limited in a transaction led by current Crossfin board directors Neil Michelson and Dean Sparrow. Grant was responsible for all financial and commercial aspects of the business, including driving the achievement of all financial targets, building a finance team and implementing a worldclass ERP system while the business grew from R80m turnover and 100 staff to turnover in excess of R400m and a staff complement of 180.
In 2011 he was part of the management team that sold the CSC business to US listed Verifone in a transaction that saw UCS exit the business initially to Business Connexion and ultimately to Verifone in the US. After driving the integration of CSC into Verifone and achieving the management earn out targets,
Grant was promoted to COO of Verifone Africa responsible for all commercial and operational activities,
and leading a staff complement of 120.
